This paper presents a new impulse response model of edge diffraction. It uses secondary edge sources with directivities such that all sources together give the exact solution for an infinite rigid wedge, as given by Biot and Tolstoy. The new model is an extension of work by Medwin et al. Results are presented for sound transmission across a thick noise barrier, scattering from rectangular and circular thin and rigid plates. Comparisons with other methods show good to excellent agreement. Efficient numelical implementations are possible, especially if only first-order diffraction is needed to include.
