This paper presents an automatic path design method based on a Linear Programming (LP) method which can be utilized in commercialized systems. Assumed network consists of SDH nodes and optical links, which can take any form of ring, star, and mesh topologies. Proposed Network Operation System (NOS) provides automatic planning capability of path routing and mappings for the network. Once Operator inputs only two nodes to be terminated for the objective path on the network configuration, NOS calculates optimum routing and mappings of valid time slots in SDH sections so that it can allocate the SDH nodes to establish the shortest route and fastest restoration time resulting in higher reliability. The proposed design method is used in commercialized systems to achieve full and effective utilization of networks consisting of SDH nodes and optical fiber links.
