The Authors propose a novel ultra high-speed network file server based on a personal computer (PC) to provide high-speed contents delivery services of huge files, like movie files, graphic images and computer programs, over Gigabit Networks. In order to improve performance of sequential reading speed from arrays of hard drives in the server, two key techniques are proposed, "multi-stage striping (MSS)" and "sequential file system (SFS)" architecture. A prototype of the file server has advantages of ultra high-speed up to 105Mbytes/s with only 8 hard drives, and being based on a general-purpose PC.
