In this paper a new method is studied which can align the liquid crystals by the linear polarized photo-polymerization(LPP)using ultraviolet(UV)light. The electro-optical and time response characteristic curves of TNLCDs made of the double-rubbed(DR)and linear polarized photo-polymerization(LPP)substrates are measured. The dependence of threshold voltage of LPP-TNLCD and the anchoring intensity of the photo-alignment surfaces are studied on the temperature. The weak anchoring properties of the photosensitive polyimide PI(BTDA-TMMDA)are investigated. The mechanism of LC alignment on the weak anchoring surfaces was also discussed.
