We derived the expression for the electric field in an isolated nematic droplet suspended within an isotropic medium. The field is a function of the dielectric and conductive properties of the materials and of the orientation of the liquid crystal. Results show: 1. the field within the dropiet is uniform and 2. its direction is different from that of the applied field. Abovc a certain threshold field, director of liquid crystal is reoriented while the field in the droplet simultaneously lowered down. This mechanism contributes to worsen the multiplex addressing applications of PDLC films in display.
