A number of design techniques have been proposed for implementing ATM switching networks. While many differences exist among the proposals, the vast majority of them is based on multistage interconnection networks. For nonbiocking multistage ATM switching networks at call level, all of them require a certaln level of internal link speedup. To partially overcome this difficulty, we propose a new routing scheme that is to partition external links into subgroups based on the bandwidth of a call request. It is shown that nonblocking multistage ATM networks can be constructed without internal link speedup by using the proposed routing scheme in this paper.
