Gestures are significant in multimedia/multimodal user interface. It eliminates the need for a lengthy definite description and simplifies the dialogues. These also have a favorable influence upon interpreting machine because of reduction in the recognition workload. Therefore,we performed an experiment to investigate the user's gesture behavior when dealing with a multimedia/multimodal system in an interpreting dialogue. Our study in the multimedia/multimodal interpreting experiment showed that 9% of the turn contained gestures such as circling, dragging, pointing, spiraling, and checking in direction finding task. In this paper, we describe the method of data collection, the results of subjects' pointing gestures, and our concluding remarks.
