A Helical Antenna for VHF Portable Radio Terminal

It is known that the characteristics of conventional monopole antennas or normal mode helical antennas mounted on the radio terminal change greatly when the body of the terminal is touched by hand. In this report, an antiresonance helical antenna with an inductance and a metallic sleeve for the VHF portable radio terminal is proposed. It is experimentally demonstrated that the influence of the hand on the proposed antenna is very small. Furthermore, the relation between a length of the antenna and a frequency bandwidth is described.
