In this paper a method of designing a stealth radar antenna is presented. The principle is based on selecting the geometry of grating placed on a ground plane and the distance between the grating and ground plane to restrain the direct reflection so that the first higher order diffracted wave propagates and serves as the main beam of the radar antenna. The theoretical method and analytical results for the diffraction characteristics of the grating are demonstrated. According to the theories, an experimental antenna and the experimental results are also given.
