Despite the increasing importance of control systems software, its development is quite difficult. To facilitate programming of control system software, we are developing an adaptable and extensible OS. This OS is characterized by a micro-kernal and multi-server : each server runs in a protected mode, can drive hardware and is added/extended/deleted with ease. This OS structure facilitates propramming. Large inter-task messaging overhead is anticipated in this scheme, but our implementation proved good efficiency and maintainability.
