Microwave characteristics of a LiNbO_3 optical modulator using a superconductor (Pb-In-Au) as a resonant electrode has been studied experimentally at low temperatures down to 4.2 K. It is shown that at the resonance frequency of 14.8 GH_z the obtained modulation depth takes a maximum value as expected from theory when the electrode becomes superconducting. The present results demonstrate the possible applications of superconducting electrodes to high performance LiNbO_3 optical modulators.
