In this paper, we propose a kernel mode thread, which is running the outside of the Unix kernel. We also discuss the implementation, and the applicability of our proposed system. Our system was implemented on an IBM-PC/FreeBSD 2.2.5. It contains a meta-scheduler, which schedules the external thread and the Unix system with preemptive and round-robin fashion. The external thread can run periodically with 20 msec intervals, which could be shortened I msec with one defined constant modification to the Unix kernel. The external thread is applicable to the moderate real-time processes such as a multimedia processing or a robot control.
