Control of Active Contour Model with Clustering around Contour

Region-based active contour models (ACM) have been proposed for accurate and robust region extraction. However conventional models have problems on their processing time and the accuracy of extraction. In this paper, a method is proposed which introduces image property distributions into extraction processes through the iteration of clustering around a contour and controlling ACM based on the image property distributions. The proposed method prevents unnecessary increase of processing time by limiting region used to estimate image property distributions around contour, moreover improves accuracy and stability of extraction through the appropriate control of ACM based on clustering the region into uniform subregions.
