• Comparison of TDM and WDM for backbone ring network application is discussed from the perspective of system economizing. A critical advantage that WDM can provide is the optical pass-through function at a node having a relatively small drop and insert bandwidth. Circumstances where WDM is more advantageous than TDM are frequent especially in centernode type ring networks.
