Products such as household appliances will generally be warranted against failures. This is because the product warranty is important to both consumers and manufacturers. In this study, a preventive replacement policy considering warranty is proposed. Throughout the warranty period, a manufacturer copes with the first k failures of an objective system by replacing it with new one free of charge, but he performs minimal repairs to the subsequent failures without charge. We formulate an expected cost per unit time. We establish the sufficient conditions under which a unique finite preventive replacement time that minimizes the expected cost exists.
