In this paper, we consider a telecommunication billing application and develop a stochastic model to determine the optimal software rejuvenation schedule based on the cost effectiveness. After describing the stochastic behavior of the system by a semi-Markov process, we derive the optimal software rejuvenation schedule which maximizes the cost effectiveness. Further, a statistical algorithm to estimate the optimal rejuvenation schedule is proposed for the situation where the failure time data are given.
