This paper summarizes our recent efforts in modelocking Ti:sapphire lasers with semiconductor saturable absorver mirrors (SESAMs). We present the shortest optical pulses ever generated directly from a laser. The modelocking build-up time (T_<BU>) of 60μs is, to our knowledge, the shortest reported for a passively modelocked KLM laser to date.
