Temporary faults which occur during normal operation in asynchronous circuits lead to the problem of premature completion signaling (PCS) before they result in non-codewords at the primary outputs. In this paper, we examine a methodology to achieve the on-line testing of asynchronous circuits by considering an enhanced fault model in order to minimize the erroneous effects of PCS. First, we present the problem of premature completion signaling. Next, we prove that complete exercising of the codeword inputs guarantees the detection of leakage faults also. Finally, we present a methodology to achieve the on-line testing for an enhanced fault set encompassing the logical as well as the leakage faults in quasi-delay insensitive circuits, which are a class of asynchronous circuits.
