Recording properties of perpendicular media and high Bs ring head for high density recording

2.5″ CoCrNbPt perpendicular media with different magnetic layer structures were prepared and conventional high Bs ring head was used. The parametric tests including OW (overwrite) and NLTS (non-linear transition shift) show the big possibility of this combination of head and media for high density recording system. Special output waveform of perpendicular recording are used to show recording mechanism of perpendicular media and ring head. Spectrum analysis of the output signal was performed for signal processing. With these results, some critical characteristics of both of perpendicular media and ring head for high density recording will be suggested.
