Communications and Broadcasting Satellite (CBS) payload system has been developed to provide the multimedia services in Korean peninsula and subordinates. The CBS payload system comprises Ku & Ka-band payload, and each payload consists of transponder and antenna. After ETRI and co-developers, such as KAI (Korea Aerospace Industries), KAL (Korean Air), Telwave, and KoSpace successfully completed System Requirement Review (SRR), System Design Review (SDR) and Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR) was held to finalize detailed design. In this paper, detailed design results of Ka-band payload system are described for the key technical aspects such as RF performance design and analysis, thermal / mechanical design and analysis, transponder RF equipment design and analysis, test plan and product assurance plan. The detailed design results for RF equipment are obtained based on the measurement value of the Engineering Model (EM) RF equipment. The detailed design results obtained satisfies the requirements of the Payload system, Transponder, Antenna Subsystem and Transponder RF equipment. Upon the completion of detailed design, CBS Ku/Ka payload systems including RF equipment are to be manufactured in accordance with the PA processes.
