A 2.4GHz divided-by 32/33 dual-modulus prescaler is designed, consuming 250μA at a low power supply voltage of 1.25V and an input frequency of 2.4GHz. The design is realized in 0.25μm CMOS process using high-speed differential D-flipflop in the phase switching prescaler architecture. The circuit is optimized for minimal power consumption, maintaining a maximum operation frequency of at least 2.4GHz. A co-integration of the prescaler with a LC-VCO(voltage controlled oscillator) shows of-117dBc/Hz(@1MHz offset) phase-noise performance. Thus practical designed circuits are available for frequency synthesizer applications.
