CREB-binding protein (CBP) and calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV (CaMKIV) were examined in ameloblasts of the rat incisor, using immunocytochemistry by specific antibodies, since these two proteins are suggested to be cooperative to c-Jun-mediated transcription. CBP localized in ameloblast nuclei in the maturation zone but not in the secretion and transition zones. CaMKIV localized in ameloblast nuclei in the secretion, transition and maturation zones. From the results of the previous report which showed c-Jun localization in the ameloblast nuclei, these three proteins may interact with one another in the maturation ameloblasts which suggests that the maturation ameloblasts undergo active transcriptional regulation.
