The purpose of this experiment was to examine the effects of visibility and memory load upon the blink rate during the visual search task. Twelve undergraduates were instructed to search one (low memory load) or three (high memory load) alphabetic letters that were previously memorized, in a stimulus set of 400 letters. A stimulus set was presented on a CRT display under two visibility conditions differed in color of letters, i.e., blue (low visiblity) or green (high visiblity). As a result, the blink; rate decreased just after the initiation of the task arid the inhibitory effect was decreased under high memory load condition. Visibility affected blinking only in a low memory load condition, but the interaction effect was not significant.
