Karamzin, being inspired by the Western literary almanachs des Muses, published Aglaia (1794-1795, 2vols) and Aonides (1796-1799, 3 vols). The latter Aonides, which Karamzin considered as a forum of all Russian poets, illustrates the Sentimental movements of the Russian poetry in the last decade of the 18th-century. We are concerned with the analysis of Aonides I. The main points can be summerized as follows: 1) The established, classical poets made some experiments on various light verses under thc influence of the new literary trends. 2) Karamzin did not publish any literary criticisms, but his aesthetic and artistic view is reflected in his 17 poems. 13) The poems of the rising generation revealed the emptiness of the Sentimental pooetry. 4) The Salonist quality, which was the basic and salient feature of the previous periodicals of Karamzin, is confirmed in this almanach.
