This paper presents a more precise terminology for the semantics of somatic locutions than those previously used. By somatic locutions we mean the verbal description of somatic language: somatic grammer and somatism (somatic lexicon, i.e. gestures, poses, facial gestures, facial poses, and symptoms). We approach the analysis of semantics of concrete somatic locutions from the semiotic point of view. We found that the characteristic feature of the semantics of somatic locutions is a "double level of meaning". The model for this "double level of semantics of somatic locutions" is presented on p. 32. On the basis of this we can classify the semantics of somatic locutions as presented on pp. 33-40. In accordance with this model, a "two stage decoding of somatic locutions" is explained, which has important applications in studying the mechanisms of intercultural communication.
