Results from field measurements of acoustic wave propagation along a surface of snow are discussed. The experiments were carried out on two kinds of deposited snow. One of them has an acoustically hard backing and another has an uniform property to the depth of a practically infinite. Using the acoustic model for the behavior of porous materials according to Morse and Ingard, who treated the materials phenomenologically, it is shown that the experimental results over two kinds of deposited snow each having different structures can be described in a satisfactory way.
