南部北上山地日頃市地方古生層砂岩の予察的研究

This paper contains preliminary notes for a sedimentological study of the Palaeozoic sandstones from the Hikoroichi area, South Kitakami Mountains. The Devonian and Lower Carboniferous sandstones belong to lithic arenite, feldspathic arenite, feldspathic wacke and calcareous sandstone, and are grouped into three major types. The major composition and petrographical characters of the rock fragments suggest that the sandstones are derived mainly from intermediate and basic volcanic rocks and subordinately from intermediate and basic hypabyssal and plutonic rocks. The examined specimens, having a low content of quartz and muddy matrix, show a marked difference in the major composition of the Upper Palaeozoic sandstones of several other regions in Japan.
