POS was invented by Lawrence L. Weed, 1968. This is a system of writing medical records, aiming at comprehensive medical-treatments, improving patients' quality-of-life as well as developing medical education and quality of medical treatment. In Japan, this system has gradually been getting widespread, and Japan Medical-Association decided to promote the system in 2002. While, in dentistry, it has hardly been prevailing, however, it will become popular quite soon because of the following reasons. 1. In aging society, there are many dental patients with other diseases due to the age. So this situation makes us cooperate with various kinds of medical workers. 2. Nursing care insurance has been effective, and 'taking-treatment-at-home' has been getting familiarized. 3. Medical records are going to be required to be open to the patients. 4. Taking 'post-graduated-training-course' has been mandatory. However, POS should be promoted in consideration of the following problems. 1. POS has not been so well known in dentistry yet. 2. The necessity for POS is not relatively high in dental clinics in comparison to other medical hospitals. 3. It is not easy to spare time to write medical record according to POS forms in busy daily practice. 4. Taking this system causes the increase of expenses. I am going to speak about the above according to my 7-year experience of POS.
