The presence of phage in A. actinomycetemcomitans isolated from a Brazilian Papillion-Lefevre syndrome patient was reported. Phage infection was detected by negative staining with phosphotungstic acid for electron microscopy. The phage infection might explain the strong periodontal destruction observed in this patient. The PLS patient is still in a plaque control program.
