School education is now in the midst of upheaval. One evidence is shown in the change of ideas on scholastic ability. This means that the focus or emphasis point of "scholastic ability" is shifting from substantial ability [such as knowledge and skills] to functional ability [such as interest, desire, ability to think and ability to express], and from quantitative and analytic ability to qualitative and comprehensive ability. Turning our attention to the classrooms, we can point out the trend for the voluntary and autonomous "student-centered" learning style to have greater importance than "teacher-centered" instruction style where the teacher controls and decides the orientation of students' activities. Along with this, educational media are changing qualitatively. The interactions between the students and the media are increasing as the role of media become more complex and more comprehensive; from a single medium to media mix and even to multimedia. With this interactivity, we then face new questions : what qualitative changes have been brought to the instructional system?; how does the interactivity affect the matters including the views of scholastic ability, teaching-learning process, curriculum planning and teacher's belief? Through these questions, I will analyze and search for "the new education opened up by new media."
