Until now air temperature distribution in the urban area has been studied mainly in middle or small cities which are located in the inland open plain. But in Japan, except for some regions, many cities are located in the place where the sururban rounding natural factors have influence on the temperature distribution inside the area. So, in order to know the pattern of the temperature distribution in the re-such a city, the author made moving observations in Koahi City, and tried to know lationships between the urban temperature and the natural factors. As a result the following point was made clear. Until now it is said that urban temperature appears remarkably from middle night to early morning continually. In Kochi City, however, it only appears for a few hours after the sunset. That is to say, for a few hours after the sunset, there exists the heat island which is thought to be made by human activities, but in the early morning, this heat island disappears and the temperature distribution is decided by natural factors such as the cold air from the Inountain and the warm water of Urado Bay. From the above-mentioned, it may be said that in a middle class city like Kochi City which lies in the place where the surrounding natural factors have influence on the temperature distribution inside the urban area, the temperature distribution in the urban area tends to submit to natural factors more than human factors.
