This paper discusses the macroscopic stability of fuzzy control systems. The stability of fuzzy control systems should be discussed as a nonlinear system. We suppose that the dynamics of controlled object is represented by first order time lag with dead time. The characteristics of fuzzy controller is representedby a control map and the whole system is represented by a nonlinear difference equation. The stability of this system is discussed as to two regions. First as to the region which is far from the origin of the phase plane, the stability of the fuzzy systems are examined by describing functions. Next as to the region which is near the origin, the local stability is examined theoretically at each point on the phase plane. As the result, the existence of limit cycle and the way of improving performance are easily known by inspecting this map.
