The affective domain in instruction is often superseded by the cognitive domain. Educational goals stress the attainment of knowledge and overlook the behavioral aspect whic influence achievement in the classroom. This paper explains the relationship between the cognitive domain and the affective domain and explains how they can work in tandem to enhance the education of the student. Affective goals are outlined. Research supporting the use of the affective domain is presented. Examples of classroom modifications to reach these goals are given. Finally, the necessity for the implementation of affective goals, particularly in the English as a Foreign Language classroom, is explained in relation to the internationalization of education.
