Zinc(II) was extracted with 2-(8-quinolylazo)-4,5-diphenyl-imidazole into a phase separated from a micellar solution of polyoxy-ethylene-4-nonylphenyl ether with average oxyethylene units of 7.5. The degree of concentration was 40, and thus the present method was capable of determining zinc(II) at several ppb in coastal seawater.
