Morphological Generation of French Sentences

The French generation is a part of the prototype multi-lingual machine translation system based on PIVOT method developed by NEC. The French generation prototype concerns the second phase of the whole translation process, which consists in generating French sentence from language-independent concept representation -called interlingan -livered by the analysis phase. The French prototype is composed of :the semantic, syntactic and morphological generation modules which are successively executed, so as to get French surface sentence from interlingual representation of source sentence. Morphological generation in French is a complicated task because of numerous inflexions for verbs and suffix agrements for some other syntactic categories of words. Besides,peculiar properties of the French language such as :ehajon, contraction and hpphenation require additional morphological operations.
