Restricting effect of tocopherol upon the growth of weanling rats was demonstrated in animals of 50 to 60 g body weight of both sexes reared on tocopherol-deficient diet with and without oral supplement of 0.5 mg of DL-α-tocopherol per day per rat for 44 days. The result was that the averaged weight gain of the tocopherol-fed group was about 84% of that of deficient group and the allantoin excretion in urine of the latter was superadded to that of the former. Little difference was found in the amounts of excreted allantoin between males and females of the deficient group, while in the fed group males excreted about 40% less of allantoin than that of females. No remarkable differences were found between both groups in the amounts of uric acid, creatine and creatinine excreted in urine.
