About 200 strains of Actinomycetes were isolated from the soil, and 27 strains active against the plant pathogenic microbes were selected by techniques of the spraying, the agar streak method, the pulp disc method, and the agar disc method. Among 27 strains, the A-6 strain which was the most active was found to be a new strain of Streptomyces from its characteristics. The result of the paper chromatography (Strip method) with the A-6 strain antibiotics, is shown in Table 4. The antibiotics were produced by surface culture and shaking culture in the VAN der BROOK medium. Potato starch is suitable carbon source and peptone suitable nitrogen source for antibiotic production. The method of purification was almost the same as that of streptomycin and streptothricin. By the chromatographic procedure, HCl-salt was obtained and it inhibited the growth of bacteria at a concentration of 10〜1 mcg/cc. HCl-salt which is white powder, soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, and insoluble in other organic solvents, has shown positive SAKAGUCHI's reaction but negative biuret, ninhydrin and other colour reactions. Crystalline heliantate (D.P.203〜205) and Reinekate (D.P.285〜290) were obtained. The therapeutic or preventive effectiveness of the A-6 strain antibiotics was investigated in artificial infection of B.carotovorus in chinese cabbage. The result is shown in Table 7
