Alpha-Naphtyal acetic acid, β-(1-naphthyl) propionic acid, β-(2-naphtyl) propionic acid, γ-(1-naphtyl) propionic acid, γ-(2-naphtyl) butyric acid, β-(1-naphtyl) propionic acid, β-(2-naphtyl) propionic acid and β-(2-naphtyl) acrylic acid were prepared and their antimicrobial actions were compared.It was found that the antimicrobial activity of naphthalene derivatives having saturated fatty acid group mentioned above is higher as the number of carbon atom increases, and that the activity of α-naphthalene derivatives in always higher than the corresponding β-naphthalene derivatives.
