Paper chromatographic analysis of dextrins, the iodine reactions of which vary from blue to yellow, is difficult, perhaps owing to their molecular constructions. But, when LINTNER's soluble starch solution and its enzymatic products are used as samples, the qualitative and quantitative analyses can be practically accomplished as follows : 1% lactic acid, 5% glucose, and 20% alcohol are used as the chromatographic developers. The dextrins extracted from all fractions on the developed paper with boiling water are colorimetrically determined by means of the filters of different wave lengths (Fig. 1), and there are found the relationships between transmittance and quantity of dextrin (Fig 2). From the data thus obtained we can study the qualities of the dextrins produced in the course of disintegration of starch by amylase.
