While inspecting the stem of four-year-old seedlings of Japanese black pine (Pinus thunbergii PARL.), which were killed by inoculation with a water suspension of ca. 30,000 nematodes (Bursaphelenchus lignicolus) per seedling, the author observed the occurrence of axial traumatic resin canals and cracks near the cambial zone. The occurrence of traumatic resin canals is considered to be caused by the attack of the nematodes.
