The effect of germination hastening on germination, water absorption, and volume increment of seede of Acacia mollissima seeds were studied. Treatment tested were : hot water (100 C, 10 min) dry heating (100 C, 10 min.) conc. sulphuric acid (10 min.) and scarifying. All treatments tested were effective. Scarifying proved to be the most effective, but many seeds were injured and dacayed. Hot water treatment followed scarifying but the condition of treatment will be changed according to the percentage of hard seeds contained. At the time of swelling, percentage of water absored was higher in scarified seeds (150%) than other (130%), but at the time of germination, the percentage of water absorption was highest in dry-heated seeds. It shows that dry-heated seeds have lost a part of their moisture during treatment. Considering this fact, percentage of water absorption at the time of germination were presumed as 150-160 of the original weight. The water absorption was the most rapid in those scarified and the slowest in those dry-heated. The course of water absorption showed sigmoid curves.Apparent volume of seeds were calculated by semi axis and minor axis. And the increased percentages of apparent volume after swelling were 75-85% and that in germination period were 84-100%.
