In oder to clarify the effect of the water dipping on the plastic deformation for the bending of the wood, this study was carried out the bending test subjected to central loading on the wood of "BUNA"(Fagus crenata BL), treated with water dipping under the various temparature. According to the load-deflection curve given by the results of this test, the writer calculated the reduced modulus Er (kg/cm^2) of each treated wood, as the index for the effect of temperature of water, moisture contents of the wood on the plastic bending which suggested by the description in Timoshenko's "Strength of Materials"1940. The abstructs of the results are as follows. 1) The temperature above 80℃ of water in dipping is suitable to the softing process for the bending of the wood. 2) The effects of the moisture contents show the same tendency for the bending, independent of temperature of the dipping water, the more moisture contents, the more easy bending, but its influence upon the bending is smaller, compared with the temperature of the dipping water (Fig. 7) 3) The values of the reduced modulus Er of BUNA obtained by the test were 6〜7×10^4 (kg/cm^2) at the air dried condition, 3.9×10^4 at the green, 1.4〜2.3×10^4 at 80℃ water dipping condition, and 1.2〜1.8×10^4 at 97℃ dipping condition, by which the bending moment and radius of curvature beyond the elastic limit on the bending for each conditions will be easily calculated.
