An active carbon was prepared from furfural and its physical and chemical properties were measured. The-active carbon was prepared by chlorination on furfural or by the addtion of conc. H_2 SO_4 to furfural. The properties were summerised as follows.1) specific gravity 1.3〜1.7 2) methylene blue adsorption max adsorption was attained at 600°〜900℃ and its value was 7〜24cc/0.1g carbon 3) Iodine Adsorption max. adsorption was attained at 1000℃, of which amt. was 881mg I/1g carbon 4) Adsorption of acetic acid at 900° almost total acid was adsorbed 5) Adsorption of ammonia at 800℃, the adsorption was maximum 6) Adsorption of chlorine at 500°〜600℃, the adsoption was maximum
