The breeding structure within a natural population of hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa (SIEB. et ZUCC.) ENDLE.) at Aokigahara, Mt.Fujl, was investigated by using peroxidase isozyme as a gene marker. Allele frequencies on four plots (50m×50m) were estimated and compared with genotypic frequencies of the succeeding trees with expected genotypic frequencies which were calculated from allele frequencies of upper trees on the same plots. As a result, observed genotypic frequencies of the succeeding trees were in good agreement with respective expected genotypic frequencies based on the upper trees on the same plot ; therefore, it showed that the subdivided population was a panmictic unit. This fact also provided evidence that a family was not formed.
