This paper overviews the basic concepts and framework of recent developments in the research field of molecular magnetism, with emphasis on the role of spin-singlet valence bonds. Topological pictures of valence bonds are shown to be useful in designing inter- and intramolecular spin alignment. A close relation to the theory of ferromagnetism in the Hubbard model is also suggested.
