Single crystals of the lithium nickel dioxide compound Li_<1-x>Ni_<1+x>O_2 with x=0.075 and spinel-type LiMn_2O_4 were successfully grown by customized flux methods for the first time. The relationships between the cation distribution and the structural parameters for Li_<1-x>Ni_<1+x>O_2 are summarized and discussed using the 37 reported structural data. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study at 230K confirmed the low-temperature form of LiMn_2O_4 was in orthorhombic symmetry.
