Magnetization Measurements of Itinerant Electron Metamagnet TiBe_2 at Low Temperatures down to 0.5 K

The magnetization curves of TiBe_2 were measured up to 90 kOe at temperatures 0.55〜30.1K. An abrupt increase of the magnetization was observed at about 50 kOe, but is not a first-order transition down to 0.55K. We estimated the non-linear susceptibility x_3 (T), which is related to the amplitude of paramagnetic spin fluctuations, is positive below 15 K and decreases with increasing temperature. Moreover, it is confirmed that the temperature for x_3 (T)=0 is close to that at which the linear susceptibility becomes maximum. These features are expected by a spin fluctuation theory of itinerant electron metamagnetism.
