• The magneto-optical effect is investigated based on first-principles electronic structure calculations by using the FLAPW method. Metallic multilayers, Fe/Pt, Co/Pt, Fe/Au and Co/Au, are examined. The spinorbit interaction at the noble-metal site is crucial for the magneto-optical spectrum in these systems.
