This study investigates the influence of quench rate during casting on surface crystallization and the magnetic properties of alloys with Al and Ti as impurities. The results showed that the surface crystallization of alloys containing these impurities was accelerated by a decrease in quench rate. The morphology of the crystallites formed are quite different in shape between Al and Ti. Furthermore it is found that the soft magnetic properties are governed by only the crystalline layer thickness in which the crystallites are dispersed, regardless of species of impurities.
