Strain Effect in La_<1-x>Ca_xMnO_3 Thin Films

The lattice parameter, transport properties, and magnetoresistance effect of perovskite manganite La_<0.7>Ca_<0.3>MnO_3 thin films deposited on several substrates (SrTiO_3001), LaSrGaO_4(001), YAlO_3(001), LaAl0_3(001), LaAlO_3(001)) have been investigated in the range of the mismatch of -4〜1% between the film and the substrates. We have found that metal-insulator transition temperature (T_C^^ρ) depend on the out-of-plane lattice parameter (c). Magnetoresistance effect increases linearly with decreasing T_C^^ρ. These results are understood in terms of the lattice effect induced by the strain.
